There are plenty of toys and other children’s products out there, but few that are completely sustainable. Ajzberg is a social business, the goal is to create products that use as few resources as possible, that are created through fair and partnership-based cooperation and can generate earnings that can be partially donated towards educational projects.

Challenge
Anja approached us and asked if we could help her to create and launch her first product line, a set of outdoor toys for kids: The “Guten Geister” (= Good Ghosts). Three small characters that are fun and create awareness for a more respectful treatment of our environment. Product Design per se isn’t our core competence, but we were eager to take on the challenge and were confident that we could support her vision with our creative mindset and skills to shape a unique and well thought out experience for the young ones and their parents.
Solution
We created the design for the all-weather toys which are more than just pure functionality. They are appealing, inspirational and encourage kids’ creativity. Furthermore, we developed the sophisticated and playful visual universe around the Guten Geister for the communication. Starting with logo for the brand Ajzberg and logo for the product Guten Geister, to then developing illustrations, a unique icon language, packaging design, the website, and various other materials. All packed into a colourful, imperfect organic look that is appealing to the target group always keeping the aspect of sustainability in mind. Now our ghostly friends are finally out in the wild and we were happy that we could support Anja and her good cause.
First step in our process was to develop the look and feel of the Guten Geister. We started our ideation process on a blank canvas with classic sketches. Finding a new way to combine the story of our cute characters with its functionality. Still being playful and inspirational so kids can create their own stories and a whole new world around the toys.
The second step was to create 3D Models of the all-weather toys, to define the shape and colours. Afterwards, the models were 3D printed to test the shape, the feel and usability in real life tests with our team members children. One of our many external plusses turned our 3D models into production files that we handed out to Anja for further production processes.
The third step was to turn the story into a visual Identity and send our protagonists out into their own recognizable world and create a visual language that could be used for the packaging and future communication.
